Ecolabelling

Ecolabel Finland governs both the Nordic Ecolabel – the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – and the EU Ecolabel in Finland.

Regarding both of these labels, the Ecolabel Finland:
  • participates in the preparation of the product group-specific eco-labelling criteria;
  • processed companies’ eco-label applications; and
  • issues the licenses for the label’s use.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel

YmpäristömerkkiEstablished in 1989, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official ecolabel of the Nordic countries. It is licensed only to products and services that are the best in terms of the environment. A manufacturer, importer or service provider may apply for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for a product or service whose eco-labelling criteria have been confirmed by the Nordic Ecolabelling Board. The criteria have been confirmed for nearly 70 product groups.

EU Ecolabel

Ecolabel logoThe EU Ecolabel was established in 1992. As is the case with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the EU Ecolabel can be granted only to products or services that are the best in their category. The labelling covers a little less than 30 product groups. At the beginning of 2017, there were approximately 40,000 products and services with an EU Ecolabel on the market.
