Support and Funding

Funding investments aimed at energy efficiency can be problematic in many municipalities and municipal groupings. Funding problems can lead to many financially worthwhile energy saving investments being left unrealized. Because of this the funding of energy efficiency investments must get state support and funding models.

Support for energy audits

Employment and Economic Development Centres and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy give grants to municipalities joining municipal energy savings agreements or energy programmes of up to 50% of approved costs. In addition, there is support to municipalities joining energy efficiency agreements for renewable energy municipal surveys of up to 60%.

Support for energy saving investments

Employment and Economic Development Centres and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy can provide investment support for procurements that promote energy saving and energy efficiency. The main emphasis is on procurements utilizing new technology. Communities that join the energy efficiency agreement system may also receive on a case-by-case basis procurement-based support for realizing ordinary savings investments.

Energy service company (ESCO) funding

Energy saving investments may be funded in their entirety by third-party funding, under the energy service company, or ESCO, concept.
